Mar 9/10 - The city could soon change the way it sets user fees and charges for things like swimming and transit. Staff has been using an average of six similar-sized centres in Alberta. Public Services Commissioner Ron Webb says they will go to council with some key principles to determine the fees. He says they are looking at a variety of issues, ranging from the percentage of costs needing to be covered and the utilization of certain services. Alderman Graham Kelly admits it is a tough balancing act that must be done, but the belief is some fees are being used to cover cost overruns for other services. Council will now look to approve certain principles for staff to start setting fees.
