City Committee Approves Community Group Grants



Mar 10/10 - A wide-array of community groups could be in line for funding from the city.  Seventeen organizations could share part of $104,000 in Municipal Sustainability Initiative funding from the province.  Social Development Manager Varley Weisman says 42 groups came forward with requests totalling over $674,000 so he admits the balancing act was difficult.  He says they wanted to hit as many people as they possibly could with their seventeen recommendations.  Among the groups who would get funding if approved by council:

$13,732 - Community Food Connection Association of Southeastern Alberta
$12,500 - South Eastern Alberta Safety Alliance Society (Safety City)
$12,000 - Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Medicine Hat and District
$10,000 - Medicine Hat John Howard Society
$6,405 - Parkinson Society of Southern Alberta
$6,200 - Medicine Hat Firehall Theatre Society
$5,000 - Medicine Hat Youth Action Society
$3,600 - Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Southeast Region
$3,500 - Medicine Hat Little League Association
$3,000 - Medicine Hat Judo Club
$2,800 - Kidsport Medicine Hat & Redcliff
$2,443 - HIV Society of Alberta
$2,192 - Medicine Hat and District Food Bank
$2,100 - Medicine Hat Astronomy Club
$2,000 - Medicine Hat Folk Music Club
$1,528 - Gas City Dog Club 1070
