Local Watershed Alliance Talks Conservation

Mar 12/10 - It could be 50-100 years before we are out of clean water.  That was one of the messages heard at a conference being put on by the South East Alberta Watershed Alliance.  Medicine Hat College Dean of Science Dr. Peter Wallis says river flow is limited and groundwater is an untapped resource.  He says groundwater has its issues though because of the depths that it is tapped from, but they are still uncertain as to how large the resource is.  Medicine Hat MLA Rob Renner says conservation and planning are keys to sustainability.  He says rural residents are the largest consumers of groundwater because of irrigation and other farm uses, but adds the technology is getting more efficient.
