Mar 15/10 - It was a first from the current city council and first for the 145 Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps Medicine Hat. Alderman had granted them the "Freedom Of The City" and the local squadron paraded down 1st Street just before the noon hour Sunday. Commanding Officer Lieutenant Navy Serge Lavine says they were joined by seven other Sea Cadet Corps from across Alberta. "We had a seamanship weekend," says Lavine. "It was specific training and leadership training and opportunities to go up in the cadet program." The squadron marched onto City Hall and Mayor Norm Boucher granted the "Freedom Of The City" by delivering a speech. Nearly 190 people paraded down 1st Street, which shut down the roadway for about and hour.
