Mar 18/10 - The soaring loonie provides challenges but also opportunities. That from the executive director of the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta, as the Canadian dollar flirts with parity with the American greenback. Caroline Grover says the American market may not be the best place to focus for local businesses. She says they are telling companies to not only look domestically but to the look-ahead because the short-term may be different from the long-term. Economists say it appears the loonie will remain at high levels for some time to come, although it did retreat slightly on Thursday. Grover says they preach "lean thinking", which is different from "tightening belts" as it is meant to make a company the most effective and innovative while increasing the bottomline.
