Mar 19/10 - The "High Visibility Response Team" is ready to hit the streets of Medicine Hat on the first of April. It is the 4-member police team formerly known as the "Mountain Bike Unit". Police Chief Andy McGrogan says the name change better reflects the work the unit does, as the mountain bike is only one mode of transportation they use. He says residents think of the unit only as officers riding around enjoying the sunshine and he wants them to be known as a "high-performing team" that speaks with a large number of people. Last year, the unit recorded well-over 1,000 arrests and tickets handed out, with 80%-90% of their time spent downtown, while also spending time at major events like the Medicine Hat Stampede.
